Discovery Year 7. Session 5. Week 3.
It was a busy week in the studio! Discoverers showed their adaptability as Quest challenges and service outings were adapted and moved due to weather. They also stepped back in time in an on-campus art installation by Dr. Robyn Metcalf.
Quest
Community Garden Quest was full of hard work this week. Discoverers wrapped up experiments from last week, like their seed scarification experiments and soil sample analyses, started new experiments, with their worm bins, decomposition experiments, and butterfly observations, and built their garden beds! Next week, they will prepare their garden sites and start planting!
Art
Discoverers returned to art this week! They started designing their large-scale puzzle pieces which will be assembled into a campus-wide giant puzzle installation. As they were reintroduced to the project, Discoverers were asked to consider if each person fits into the puzzle naturally or if they must change to fit in. One Discoverer said, “sometimes you have to change the way you look at a person or set boundaries” to find a way for each person to fit into the puzzle. Another stated that through changes she has undergone herself, she is “constantly finding new things that [she] love doing and new people in [her] life,” and these changes help her find different spots in the puzzle.
PD
This week, Discoverers’ sticks hit the ground in their first official field hockey games! In Thursday’s game, team Sticky-Stick met team French Fries on the field, and some truly excellent sportsmanship was observed. Discoverers supported each other, held each other accountable, and cheered on each goal.
We are looking forward to seeing Discovery gardens take shape next week!
