Following the Child: A Three-Part Series (Part 1)

As the seasons shift and a new year begins, we are invited to pause and reflect on what guides us. At the midpoint of the Spark’s yearly cycle, the Montessori principle of Follow the Child calls us back to our commitment to honor each learner’s unique path toward discovering their calling. Through intentional observation, thoughtful guidance, and a carefully prepared environment—rather than rushing outcomes—space is created for deep engagement, growing independence, and joyful learning to unfold.

Creating Space for Learning to Unfold: Inside and Outside the studio

Spark learners are stretching themselves by setting new goals and taking on fresh challenges in the studio. Building on skills developed in past sessions, they are choosing work that invites deeper concentration, persistence, and confidence. Each new challenge reflects growing self-awareness and a willingness to take the next step in their learning journey.

This session, in alignment with their community in the Discovery and Explore studios, Sparks are exploring the basics of physics through joyful discovery of forces, pushing and pulling, as well as watching gravity at work. The Spark learners put these ideas into motion with their first Spark Bike Days, where balance, force, and momentum came alive on two wheels. The learners also tested these concepts with builds in Spark Play.
