Spark Y8.S1.W1
Finding Their Rhythm, Building Community
The first week of the session gave Sparks time to settle in, explore, and begin finding their rhythm together. As learners became familiar with the Spark studio, Spark Play, and the larger Ascent campus, each space offered an opportunity to build confidence, connection, and a sense of belonging. Along the way, Sparks explored the agreements that help everyone care for themselves, one another, and the spaces they share, beginning to discover what it means to be part of this learning community.
Inside the studio, Sparks began learning what it means to participate in a work cycle: choosing work, caring for materials, staying with something that feels challenging, and cleaning and resetting the work before returning it for the next learner. The learners explored what it looks like and sounds like to support one another while we are “growing our brains,” remembering that learning can feel hard sometimes, and that is often where growth begins.
Throughout the week, Sparks also had time to simply enjoy being together. They learned names, shared stories, explored, played, laughed, and began discovering more about one another. Through these moments, new connections are taking root and a sense of belonging is growing, laying the foundation for the trust, independence, and community they will continue to build throughout the year.
