This week, in the very first week of the Peak Studio, Peak learners began exploring the Question of the Year: Where does a Hero find purpose?
Learners dove into their work with energy, carrying the momentum of a summer of hard work into daily Work Cycles. Some of the Work Cycles took them off campus to different work spaces, giving the learners a chance to practice what it means to be trusted to work in new places and to stay focused outside the familiar studio.
The Peak learners also revisited Ascent's mission of helping each person discover a calling that will change the world, and contemplated the questions they will focus on answering this year. They were introduced to deep books, the kind of challenging reading that helps a Hero consider what matters in life.
The main focus of the week was preparing for the first Peak trip: four days in Fort Davis next week! The learners wrote their first group covenant, the trip contract, along with safety guardrails and a shared picture of what "prepared" looks like for a long trip in a remote location. They planned meals, built a grocery list, and made a HEB run for road trip food. They packed and prepared physically and mentally.
By Friday, learners had done what any Hero does before a big journey: worked hard, prepared carefully, and made commitments together.
Next up: Fort Davis.
