Discovery Year 7. Session 7. Week 1.

Welcome back for our last session of the year!

Quest

A well-loved tradition of Session 7s is the Growing Curiosity Quest. During Session 6, teams of Explorers started designing and planning a week-long quest that they will then facilitate in the Discovery Studio during Session 7. Discoverers always show up in such a whole-hearted, respectful, and patient way during these mini-Quests hosted by Explorers.

In Week 1, Explorers facilitated a week of film. Discoverers were put on teams, given a script (a Bluey short), and challenged to design their filming set and props, memorize scripts, rehearse their roles, and film their skits. Film Quest ended with a screening of each skit and some celebratory snacks provided by the Explorers.

Discoverers eagerly await their next Growing Curiosity mini-Quest!

Finding Flow

Another hallmark of Session 7 is the focus and flow that Discoverers find during Work Cycle. As the year comes to a close, Discoverers find motivation to finish big year-long goals and badge challenges. To support studio focus and flow, the Discoverers experimented with a new tool this week, the Yakker Tracker. This tool uses a red light-yellow light-green light system to let the studio know how loud their volume is. The first few days with this tool, Discoverers sat back and collected data: how many times did their studio trigger the red light (loudest volume)? Then, informed by that data, they started setting goals for how many times the red light should trigger. After some trial and error, by Friday, community goals were being met and surpassed. The studio will continue to experiment with different tools to support Work Cycle as the year winds down.

Thanks for a strong first week back, Discovery!
