Discovery Year 7. Session 5. Week 1.

Discoverers were enthusiastic about each new challenge as they returned to the studio this week.

Quest

This session, Discoverers are becoming farmers in Community Garden Quest. Is discussions, learners engaged with questions like, should humans intervene when plants are headed  towards extinction? And, is it better to have a more nutrient-dense food source that is harder to grow or to have an abundance of genetically modified food that contains fewer nutrients? Discoverers are also working through a series of experiments relating to plant sciences, which will prepare them to make wise choices when they plan their gardens.

Writers’ Workshop

Discoverers rejoiced in returning to fiction this session, as they jumped into creating bedtime stories. Their challenge: write a story that will help a younger sibling or Spark to conquer nighttime fears.  This session, Discoverers will be focusing on their idea development by designing vivid characters and setting, writing with clear and descriptive language, and creating specific and focused storylines.

PD

After two olympic golds last weekend, there couldn’t be a more perfect time for Discoverers to jump into Field Hockey! The learners put their sticks  to the ground this week as they drilled ball control, stick handling, and field hockey rules.

We look forward to seeing all the ways that Discoverers rise to the challenges of Sesssion 5!
